Summary

Die Unterstützung der Bevölkerung für die Übertragung nationaler Kompetenzen an Europa steht im Zentrum dieses Werkes. Der Autor untersucht diese für die europäische Integration wichtige Thematik mit Hilfe von aktuellen Umfrage- und länderspezifischen Daten aus 29 EU-Mitglieds- und Kandidatenländern. Diese innovative Studie zeigt auf, wie ein affektiver Faktor (Identifikation) und ein utilitaristischer Faktor (Qualität der Governance) die Bereitschaft der Bevölkerung zur Delegation von Kompetenzen an die EU beeinflussen.

Das Buch veranschaulicht das grosse Potenzial, das der weniger starre utilitaristische Faktor sowohl für die künftige Entwicklung der EU als auch generell für föderale Systeme birgt.
