Summary
Are super heroines feminists? How do ancient myths, the biblical story of Samson or Nietzsche's philosophy influence the creators of Superman? And what does the Nibelungen Saga have to do with Marvel? This reader – the first collection of and commentaries on texts in German language that deal with the theory and history of superheroes, geared towards the general public – provides answers to the above and other questions, for instance regarding the versatile mediality and history of the reception of superhero stories, the viewpoint the creators of comics have of their art and the changing image of the superhero in current research.
