[Would Jesus be a Climate Activist? Biblical Inspirations for a Contemporary Ethic of Creation] The man-made climate crisis is becoming increasingly dramatic. The 1.5-degree target set in Paris in 2015 has been missed, and many scientists believe that irreversible tipping points have already been reached in the Earth’s systems. Forest fires and floods are already causing a great deal of suffering for people, animals and plants. In light of these developments, climate activists have reformulated Martin Niemöller's old question (What would Jesus say?): »Would Jesus be a climate activist today?«. It is a challenge for churches and theology. Ruben Zimmermann tackles this question and looks for answers by examining New Testament texts. In six chapters, he discusses Jesus’ prophetic call for repentance and proclamation of truth, his devotion to animals and plants, particularly in the parables and signs, as well as the possible mission for us in each case with a view to the current social situation.
