Summary

Language and politics are connected in a constitutive way: Language and speech can be understood as enabling resources, instruments and the results of specific policies, politics and polities. Scrutinising this complex relationship means drawing from different perspectives and disciplines that deal with its diverse foundations, manifestations and contexts, which are the subject of this edited volume. Perspectives and illustrations encompass all fields of political science from political theory and comparative politics to international relations and are connected with insights from neighbouring disciplines such as linguistics, phonetics and literary studies. The contributions in this book represent both the relevance of and differ-ent ways to study the relationship between language and politics.
