Summary
Discriminated with the means of language and a long-time taboo: gay soccer players. With the coming-out of the former German national soccer player Thomas Hitzlsperger in 2015, they have been given their first and most famous face. Going beyond the limelight and individual cases, these ethnographic studies are the first to focus on daily life of gay* non-professional soccer teams. Stefan Heissenberger's active participation and observations as a team trainer led him to the major and minor stages of this sub-section of hetero-normative soccer. The results provide new impulses for dealing with this globally most significant athletic sport from the point of view of social studies and social politics.
