Recycling, upcycling, and the share economy: sharing and swapping or the repurposing of everyday objects has gained increased importance in our consumption-driven and disposable society – in swap parties, repair cafés or in dumpster diving. Based on the central actors in these exemplary fields, Maria Grewe uses a comparative ethnographic approach to examine the cultural strategies for dealing with abundance and scarcity. In doing so, she also considers the contribution that cultural-anthropological research can make to sustainability discourse.
