»More or less?« Ecological growth criticism opposes destructive dynamics of modern societies of industry and excess that endanger a good life. Concepts of sustainable development often adhere to the modern promises of more far too optimistically. But merely turning towards »less« yields no better answers, either. Instead, sustainable development requires the continuous search for appropriate means and ends. Stephan Lorenz shows that chances for this lie in democratizing the search processes. The social sciences are given the task to contribute to the improvement of the respective negotiation processes. The question is: Who and what must be taken into account?
