Summary
Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) awakens hope in science and society of finally being able to make a universal image of man. The promise of brain research is particularly fueled by this imaging technique's level of evidence. The method transforms the human brain into a visual object whose image is not just the end product of a complex technique, but always represents the basis of cognitive processes. Hannah Fitsch traces the visual logics in the production conditions of functional imaging, and can thus show the method's individual modes of standardization and objectification.
