Summary
[Worship in the Life of the Church. Explorations] The worship life of the Protestant churches in Germany is undergoing a profound upheaval. The theory and practice of congregational gatherings on Sunday mornings is changing with a speed and depth that has not been seen since the Enlightenment and rationalism. While the future viability of the Protestant churches is being fought over, ecumenical dialog is making significant progress. How should these upheavals be understood and evaluated? The volume of essays “Gottesdienst im Leben der Kirche”, published as a commemorative edition on the occasion of Prof. Dr. Hanns Kerner's 75th birthday, collects nine “explorations” that examine these developments from historical, theological, anthropological, epistemological, ecumenical and social science perspectives.
