Summary
[Agreement - Dispute - Conversation. 50 years of the Leuenberg Agreement] On September 16, 1973, representatives of the United, Reformed and Lutheran churches as well as the Waldensian and Bohemian Brethren churches signed the Leuenberg Agreement. It is a milestone in inner-evangelical ecumenism and the basis of the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE). At the same time, it continues to be criticized: questions about the understanding of church fellowship and the hermeneutics of the Concord text, the ecumenical and politically exemplary potential of the Concord, remaining differences, the significance of subsequent texts and much more are discussed. This volume contains the VELKD's appraisal of the Agreement from March 2023 and the contributions of a symposium organized by the VELKD and two chairs of the University of Göttingen with the participation of the UEK 2023 on critical aspects, current significance and development possibilities of the Agreement.
