Summary
Inwiefern sind politische Entscheidungsprozesse mediatisiert? Ausgehend von dieser Frage analysiert der Autor die mediale Berichterstattung und die Strategien und Wahrnehmungen der Parlamentarier in drei Entscheidungsprozessen in der Schweiz. Mit der „Mediatisierung der Politik“ werden Änderungen im Verhalten politischer Akteure und institutioneller Prozesse beschrieben, die auf massenmediale Aufmerksamkeit zurückzuführen sind. Letztendlich kann eine starke Mediatisierung dazu führen, dass Politiker sich vor allem den Anforderungen kommerzieller Massenmedien anpassen, die primär an Konflikt, Drama, Personen und Unmittelbarkeit interessiert sind. Dies könnte etablierte demokratische Institutionen und Prozesse in Frage stellen.
Die Untersuchung der Strategien und Wahrnehmungen der Parlamentarier gibt einen Einblick in das Zusammenspiel zwischen Politik und Massenmedien in einem globalisierten und polarisierten Umfeld. Die Resultate zeigen, dass die Mediatisierung der Politik nicht zwangsläufig von den Massenmedien abhängt, sondern vor allem auch von den strategischen Interessen der einzelnen Politiker und ihrer Parteien.
