Summary

Comparative literature takes a cross-border perspective on literature, whereby both language borders and borders between media are meant. Since the 19th century, a dynamic discipline with a cosmopolitan perspective has emerged from this positioning. Based on the eventful history of comparative literature, this book offers an insight into current research fields: from the history of comparative literature and issues relating to corpus formation, through intermediality and translation, to theories of fiction. A look at connections to other humanities reveals interdiscursive approaches and the wide range of research possibilities in comparative literature. This textbook is aimed at students of literature, cultural studies, translation studies and media and communication studies.
