Summary
What do we want to talk about when we think about design? Anyone who looks around is bound to see shaped objects. They have been designed to be useful. But is everything you can use already a design? Our society has coined the term of design so as to tell that which is designed apart from other objects by means of certain criteria. These encodings may be considered to be a form of aesthetic perception. Annette Geiger provides an overview of the theory and history of design for anyone who wants to approach this discipline from a new perspective: Design is the exploration of the chance to be different.
