What meaning does bodily/physical interaction and communication possess for social understanding and intersubjectivity? By means of empirical research as well as approaches encompassing corporeal phenomenology and affect theory, the contributions in this volume open up a new layer in our understanding of the self and the other – and thereby of sociality. Progressing from concepts such as intercorporeity and embodiment, perspectives from philosophy, cultural and social studies, and cognition and movement research as well as practical fields such as dance, music and body practice are brought together, in the process making explicit the hitherto mostly implicit processes of body-based understanding of movement and emotions.
