Infrastructure landscapes are a phenomenon of modernity that has emerged through phases of urban growth. With their material persistence, they transform the characteristics and aesthetics of spaces – even when their artifacts have fallen out of use. But which functional and aesthetic values do we connect with them? How and by whom are infrastructure landscapes formed, and how do they change? In observing selected European city spaces, this book captures perspectives of (aging) infrastructures and their interaction with urban spaces from an analytical point of view, and poses questions about their design.
