Zusammenfassung
Nach mehr als acht Jahren politischer Reform ist es notwendig, Indonesiens Demokratisierungsprozess zu analysieren. Dieses Buch gibt einen wichtigen Einblick in die aktuelle Politik und beinhaltet eine theoriebasierte Evaluierung der gegenwärtigen Situation – z.B. im Hinblick auf Rechtsstaatlichkeit, den Sicherheitssektor und Identitätsfragen. Abschließend wird diskutiert, ob Churchills berühmte Aussage, »Demokratie ist die schlechteste aller Staatsform mit Ausnahme all der anderen, die von Zeit zur Zeit Anwendung gefunden haben« auch für Indonesien gilt. Kann wirklich davon ausgegangen werden, dass es trotz aller Herausforderungen und Probleme für Indonesien kein besseres politisches System als das der Demokratie gibt?
