Bisherige Forschung zeigt, dass mit der Nutzung von künstlicher Intelligenz (KI) oft eine Anthropomorphisierung einhergeht, die sich u. a. in der Zuschreibung von vermenschlichenden Rollen an diese äußert. Allerdings wurde Anthropomorphisierung bisher selten im Kontext von generativer KI untersucht, die sich durch ihren kommunikativen Charakter von anderen KI-Formen unterscheidet und durch ihre zunehmende Nutzung eine erhöhte gesellschaftliche Relevanz erlangt. Die vorliegende qualitative Studie analysierte, wie Studierende der Kommunikationswissenschaft und Informatik als Early Adopter generative KI nutzen und welche anthropomorphisierenden Rollen sie ChatGPT zuschreiben. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass Studierende ChatGPT insbesondere zur Produktivitätssteigerung und Ideenfindung nutzen, was sich auf die Zuschreibung der Rollen auswirkt. Während die meisten Studierenden ChatGPT in der bewussten Reflexion als Werkzeug oder Assistenz einstufen, zeigt sich in unbewussten Nutzungspraktiken auch eine partnerschaftliche Rollenwahrnehmung. Diese Erkenntnisse erweitern theoretisch das duale Modell der Anthropomorphisierung und verweisen gesellschaftlich darauf, dass die Bewusstwerdung über die Widersprüche in der (Nicht-)Anthropomorphisierung dazu beitragen kann, KI-Kompetenz zu fördern.
