Zusammenfassung

Das koloniale (Miss-)Verständnis der hinduistischen Gesellschaft wurde mittels kastenbezogener Narrative auf starre Kastenidentitäten reduziert. Anhand einer diskursiven Studie des Textes „Brahmarshi Vansha Vistar [Geschichte der Brahmanen]“, erstmals verfasst von dem einheimischen Gelehrten Swami Sahajanand Saraswati, zeigt das Buch, dass verschiedene Brahmanen-Kasten und Unterkasten keine starren Grenzen hatten und haben. Es beabsichtigt, die von soziologischer und kulturanthropologischer Forschung übernommenen Perspektiven zu hinterfragen. Untersucht wird die Identitätsbildung in der indischen Gesellschaft, um die herum Politik, Wahlverhalten, horizontale soziale Zugehörigkeiten und kastenbasierte Vorbehalte strukturiert sind.
