Zusammenfassung

Dies ist die erste Biographie des viktorianischen Journalisten, Zeitungsherausgebers und Reiseschriftstellers Andrew Wilson (1830–1881). Geboren in Bombay, war er nach Studien an den Universitäten von Edinburgh und Tübingen als Zeitungsherausgeber in Bombay, Karachi und Hongkong tätig und verfasste zahlreiche Beiträge für Blackwood’s Magazine. Weithin bekannt wurde er mit dem Buch The Abode of Snow, der anschaulichen Beschreibung einer Reise im Himalaya. Die Biographie fußt in erster Linie auf Wilson’s unpublizierten Briefen an John und William Blackwood und zeichnet das Bild einer bemerkenswerten Persönlichkeit, deren Leben faszinierende Einblicke in die schottische Geschichte des 19. Jahrhunderts im Kontext des Britischen Weltreichs gewährt.
