History

Anthologies and monographs are collected in our publishing house’s flagship series, which addresses current topics from the field of humanities, in particular based on interdisciplinary questions. Founded in 1988 by the distinguished Germanist Gerhard Neumann (1934–2017), this highly respected series has become irreplaceable in literature studies and cultural studies research.

During the course of European integration, which is based on cooperation between autonomous states, regions have gradually become more important and have intensified their collaborative work with regions beyond the EU’s borders. However, European integration and regionalism, which includes cross-border cooperation between regions, are governed by different dynamics that are related to centralisation and decentralisation, which generates a certain amount of tension. This means that pursuing both paths (at the same time) throws up a whole host of questions, some of which are extremely complex. This collection of publications is the result of collaborative academic work between the Universities of Innsbruck, Bolzano and Trento as well as the EURAC Research Centre in Bolzano under the direction of the Research Centre on Federalism at the University of Innsbruck. It aims to publish the latest research studies on the role of regions in Europe.

Textbook series for students of religious and cultural studies as well as for student teachers The volumes in this series introduce the central topics, theories and methods of religious studies in both an academically sound manner and in understandable language, and they convey the subject’s basic study contents. The books’ consistent problem orientation and the didactic preparation of their individual chapters facilitate access to the subject’s specific contents. This series is ideally suited to exam preparation, for example through summaries, questions which test knowledge, discussion and comprehension questions, and diagrams and thematic cross-references.

“Security” is a key concept today. Striving for security is regarded as the principal aim in almost all policy areas, and not only with regard to crises in international relations, internal or social security. Against this backdrop, the series of publications entitled Politiken der Sicherheit | Politics of Security examines how notions of security have developed throughout history, from the pre-modern era to the present day. It focuses particularly on addressing the question of how certain issues developed into security issues and what political effects this had and has.This German and English-speaking series is intended to promote research from the fields of social science, law and cultural studies that deals with dynamics of security, with the creation and portrayal of security in both theory and practice. As it focuses on research into historical security, this series is receptive to all critical research projects on this subject and any issues related to it (securitisation, human security etc.).Both members of the SFB/TRR 138 and interested researchers outside the SFB-TRR 138 are expressly encouraged to publish monographs, not least qualification papers, but also thematic issues and anthologies that fit the content profile of the series.
