Cultural Studies & Classical Studies

As a critical journal for the entire field of classical studies, GNOMON fosters the connection between the various disciplines of classical studies. It thus occupies a special position among review instruments and offers the possibility of finding out about important research and publications also in the neighboring fields of one's own discipline. The reviews in GNOMON are addressed to an international audience coming from all subfields of classical studies. The languages of publication in the GNOMON are: German, English, French, Italian, and Latin.

In the year of its 100th anniversary, Gnomon will adjust its publication schedule and, starting in 2025, will be published quarterly in February, May, August, and November. Additionally, the Bibliographische Beilage, which has previously been issued four times per year, will from now on only be available online through the new Gnomon website at www.gnomon.uni-bonn.de. The pages thereby made available will be redistributed across the four annual issues, allowing more space for an increased number of reviews.

Review guidelines
Reviews are generally by invitation of the editors only. Please direct inquiries to gnomon@uni-bonn.de.

Every review in the GNOMON should serve the purpose of giving a clear picture of the contents of the book, comprehensible even to those who have not read the book themselves and do not know the problem treated from their own experience. The scientific character of the review will often require the criticism of particular aspects of the work under review; the merely specific, however, should not predominate and should not be used so much for its own sake as to illustrate the method and result of the book. All that is specific should be offered separately from that which is generally significant, in a clear outline. The GNOMON attaches importance to an easily readable, linguistically accurate presentation. Your own productive and further reflections on the subject of the reviewed work are highly welcome.

However, the database with its full inventory is accessible free of charge online at www.gbd.digital/ since January 1, 2009. The Thesaurus is available in German, English, French, Italian, and Spanish.

Offa is named after a legendary king of the Anglo-Saxons reigning over part of Schleswig-Holstein, who was praised for his braveness and wisdom. The early volumes of Offa, which started in 1936, mainly published articles on local Archaeology, but already showing a wide chronological range from Prehistory to the Middle Ages. Archaeology being a trans-regional science, in the course of time numerous scholars from Scandinavia, Western, Central and Eastern Europe presented their results of research.

Today Offa is a renowned international archaeological periodical. Before publication all contributions are peer-reviewed. The articles are published in German or English, with a short summary in both languages. For further information please go to www.offa.nomos.de.

“Anthropos” – the International Review of Anthropology and Linguistics, has been edited by Anthropos Institute (since 1962 in Sankt Augustin) since 1906 and (in recent years) published biannually. Originally relying on ethnographic contributions of Roman Catholic missionaries, the review evolved and today it is one of the most important anthropological reviews worldwide. It publishes articles on cultural as well as linguistic subjects in several languages, focusing on Cultural Anthropology, (Post-)Colonial Studies, Study of Religion and Linguistics.

The series »Neues Archiv für Niedersachsen«, edited by the Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft zum Studium Niedersachsens e. V., appears twice a year with various themes focused on urban, regional, and state development. The Journal for Cultural Studies (ZfK) serves as a critical medium for discussion and controversy surrounding “culture,” cultural studies, and their methodological approaches. Building on the international state of research, cultural phenomena are to be examined with equal attention to empirical precision and theoretical sophistication. Interactions between the humanities and the natural sciences that have emerged more recently are also to be reflected upon.

The editors are particularly committed to giving a voice to younger scholars who are developing current interdisciplinary approaches from within their individual disciplines. ZfK is published twice a year in themed issues, for which separate calls for papers are issued.

Publication of the journal by transcript Verlag has been discontinued.

Digital Culture & Society is a refereed, international journal, fostering discussion about the ways in which digital technologies, platforms and applications reconfigure daily lives and practices. It offers a forum for critical analysis and inquiries into digital media theory. The journal provides a publication environment for interdisciplinary research approaches, contemporary theory developments and methodological innovation in digital media studies. It invites reflection on how culture unfolds through the use of digital technology, and how it conversely influences the development of digital technology itself.

Diyâr is an interdisciplinary and interregional academic journal edited by the Society of Turkic, Ottoman and Turkish Studies (GTOT). It deals with Turkey, the Ottoman Empire and its successor states, Iran, Central Asia and the Caucasus. It also publishes research on the languages, cultures and history of various Turkic and Iranian­-speaking groups, dynasties and states as well as of other ethnolinguistic and religious groups living in these countries until the present day.

Diyâr publishes original and as yet unpublished contributions from the humanities, cultural studies and social sciences with emphasis on the fields of history, literary studies, sociolinguistics, political science, sociology, economics, cultural anthropology/ethnology, religious studies, music studies, cultural geography, education and law.

Through its focused content and high peer-review standards, Diyâr intends to be a leading international academic periodical on Turkic and Iranian research.

As of 2020, Diyâr will be published by Ergon (part of Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft) twice a year and will contain research articles and reviews. Guest editors will be responsible for conducting scholarly debates on specific topics in special issues. At least every third issue will have such a thematic focus. Our aim is to engage as guest editors not only renowned academics but also outstanding young, up-and-coming researchers. Diyâr accepts contributions written in German, English and French.

The Journal of Cultural Management and Cultural Policy is dedicated to international perspectives that address a wide range of issues in cultural management and cultural policy research and practice. We invite articles that reflect on organizational structures of creative enterprises, economic and managerial issues in the arts, cultural policy in all its dimensions, as well as creative and aesthetic processes in cultural production, distribution and perception. The journal aims to present multifaceted analysis and rich discourse on current issues in cultural management and cultural policy and to promote the development of research designs and methods relating to both new and established practices in these fields. The journal is open to any theoretical and methodological approach, as long as authors adhere to scholarly rigor.
