Wirtschaftssoziologie | Economic Sociology

Wirtschaftssoziologie und Politische Ökonomie | Economic Sociology and Political Economy
Publisher: Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG, Baden-Baden
Analysing economic phenomena from a sociological perspective poses a number of transdisciplinary challenges which are both highly topical and relevant. This means that the complementary research fields of economic sociology and political economics are among the most dynamic areas of the social sciences in both theoretical and empirical terms. Economic sociology offers analytical perspectives on the logic of economic activity and the way it is embedded into social structures, which are arranged in a continuum of market relations, networks, organisational hierarchies and other coordinating bodies. Research papers from this field therefore deal with a vast array of subjects, ranging from entrepreneurship, innovation and organisation in the workplace to monetary economics and financial markets. Political economics complements and supplements economic sociology’s focus on action by taking institutional interaction between economic and political systems into consideration and by treating the state’s involvement in the organisation of economic processes as particularly significant. In this respect, the issue of variations in capitalist market economies in the context of globalisation assumes a central role. The series of publications entitled “Wirtschaftssoziologie und Politische Ökonomie” (Economic Sociology and Political Economics) therefore provides a forum for theoretical and empirical works from these research areas with no thematic restrictions.

Cover of book: Streit um das Kyjiwer Erbe
Series
Publisher: Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG, Baden-Baden
This series documents research in the disciplines of sociology, history, cultural studies, political science and religious studies, as well as at the points where these disciplines overlap, which deals with societies in Central and Eastern Europe along with those in Central Asia. Since the beginning of the societal transformations at the end of the 1980s, one can observe that quite different developments have taken place in the aforementioned societies, whose fundamental characteristics lie within a very wide range of intensive modernisation and differentiation up to (new) forms of collectivistic orientation. Here, disciplinary and interdisciplinary publications, also with a critical approach, contribute to the discourse in social science on structures, actors and processes in the regions in question. The peculiarity of the series is that, in particular, authors from Eastern Europe are invited to publish work in it. Through their internal perspectives, these authors can contribute to substantially expanding expert knowledge on this subject area.

Cover of book: Ursprünge des politischen Denkens
Series
Publisher: Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG, Baden-Baden
The aim of the series is to illuminate and interpret lines of development in political thought from antiquity to modernity from a systematic and historical perspective. In a systematic comparison of influential thinkers from antiquity, modern times and modernity, traditional categories of interpretation of political thought in Europe are to be researched and reflected upon. The guiding pairs of opposites are, on the one hand, the interplay of tension between principle-oriented normativity and, on the other, the centre of gravity of power, state and social order. The series sees itself as a platform for works that deal with the ethical, social, ecological and economic challenges of the 21st century from a philosophical, historical and political-theoretical/normative perspective.
