Textbook series for students of economics at universities and colleges Academically sound and in comprehensible language, the volumes in this series introduce various topics and theories on and methods used in economics, while conveying the subject’s basic study contents. The central question the series addresses is: How can the needs of today be met in such a way that future generations will inherit an intact social, ecological and economic system? The books’ consistent problem orientation and the didactic preparation of their individual chapters facilitate access to their subject’s specialist content. This series is ideally suited to exam preparation, among other things by means of summaries, questions which test knowledge, discussion and comprehension questions, and charts and thematic cross-references.

This series of publications deals with Vietnam’s politics, society, economy and foreign relations. It is aimed at a broad readership from the fields of science, business and politics, and, in general, at readers interested in Vietnam and its neighbouring countries. The studies in the series aim to inform its readership, especially its Western audience, objectively and competently about today’s Vietnam and its role in an increasingly important region of the world: South East Asia and East Asia. As Vietnam is a dynamic state, its internal development and foreign relations are undergoing considerable change.

Talk of the knowledge society is now almost universally accepted as a representation of social reality. Socially relevant actors have to adjust to it and (learn) to deal with it on a daily basis. However, academic reflections on this situation should not only state how strongly contemporary society depends on knowledge. They must also ask what is known about this knowledge itself and about society’s dependence on it. The question of knowledge in the knowledge society thus leads to the question of the opportunities and limits of the knowable, the intertwining of knowledge and non-knowledge with various forms of social logic, and an increase in knowledge conflicts. In this regard, the editors of this series want to offer an interdisciplinary discussion forum on this subject.

The aim of the series of publications is to focus academic attention on public goods as a key prerequisite of democracy, solidarity and public welfare. It combines its intention of contemporary analysis with the interdisciplinary demand for social science and legal studies compositions, and is thus equally as much a forum for theoretical and conceptual contributions as it is for empirical studies. The series publishes both monographs and anthologies in either German or English.
