The series "Salzburg European Union Studies" aims at publishing interdisciplinary works tackling salient questions of European integration. The general success story of European integration has repeatedly shown signs of stalemate and rupture: With its finalité being still unclear, the project of integration is contested. A hybrid of supranational and intergovernmental elements, the Union’s institutional set-up is permanently “under construction”. The persisting discrepancy between market and monetary integration on the one hand and the democratic quality of decision-making as well as the lack of a European social dimension on the other constitutes one major source of the dissent. The financial and economic crisis has triggered intensive debates about European economic governance and better modes of co-ordination of economic policy, mutual surveillance and sanctions. The Union has also considerably raised the stakes by launching a new constitutional process at the turn of the century. Debates inside and outside the two Conventions were not only about institutions and procedures but also about values and identities, about the effects of EU policies on labour markets, welfare concepts and the European society in general. Last but not least, international competition challenges the European project and demands a stronger role in foreign affairs and in the relationship with its neighbouring countries.

In the economy and society, exactly how work and organisation are conducted is extremely important. The changes in gender relations are closely related to this. Gender is a key aspect of diversity. However, age, disability, ethnic or social background, sexual orientation, religion and world view, to mention only a few of the relevant aspects in this respect, can also contribute to discrimination and disparagement in the workplace. This series aims to provide a forum for theoretical and empirical works on the subject of work, organisation and diversity, and to allow findings from current research projects, conferences and academic theses from the fields of sociology, psychology, economics and their related disciplines to be discussed.

The Nomos’ Political Psychology Series, under the General Editorship of Sonja Zmerli and Ofer Feldman, aims to present a selected number of works related to the Political Psychology field of inquiry. Written by the most prominent and the most promising researchers from different disciplines including political science, international relations, social psychology, and psychology, each volume focuses on particular aspects of the discipline, and underlines the significance of the interrelationships between political behavior and involvement and psychological perspectives. The series offers theoretically, empirically, and methodologically sophisticated accounts on this interdisciplinary field of research to understand the crucial role individuals and groups play in politics; the effects of personality, attitude, learning, information processing and communication on political decisions and activity; and the linkages between situational and cultural features to performances in the public sphere. Among other subject matters the series includes research on individual and collective action, voting behavior and attitudes, political violence and terrorism, stereotypes and prejudice, group dynamics and conflicts, identity, and genetics and neuroscience, on both the domestic and international levels, and in cross-national, cross-cultural settings. Aimed at a broad international academic audience, volumes in this series will be published in English, German, and French. “Political Psychology: Issues, Challenges, and Prospects” will be an indispensable point of reference for anyone interested in political behavior and related fields of study.
