Series

This series deals with intercultural and international aspects of the media and communication, particularly focusing on transcultural phenomena which arise from globalisation, cultural homogenisation and cultural synchronisation. It contains works from a variety of fields written in either German or English.

This series of publications is dedicated to the analysis of international security crises and conflicts. Through anthologies and monographs, expertise from theory and practice is combined to promote dialogue and provide an all-encompassing situation report. Accordingly, German (and European) security and defence policies are examined with regard to each area of conflict and potential solutions are developed.

The new series of publications entitled Poland’s Foreign Policy Library, edited by Dariusz Pop?awski and Karina Paulina Marczuk, scholars at the University of Warsaw, examines the various dimensions of Poland’s bilateral relations with other states, mainly during the last twenty five years since the end of the Cold War. Due to the complexity of these relations, however, it is necessary to take their historical background into consideration. That is why, in certain volumes, historical aspects of Poland’s bilateral relationships are addressed, i.e. prior to 1991, which will enable the readers to understand the multifaceted nature of those relationships better. The authors, a group of mainly Polish scholars, do not only address issues such as Poland’s foreign policy or security cooperation, but also its economic cooperation with both European and non-European countries. Moreover, they do not only use secondary sources in their books, but also legal acts, archival documents and other official papers concerning Poland’s relations written in a variety of languages, which adds to the value of the series.

The series of publications entitled ‘Theologie, Bildung, Ethik und Recht’ (‘Theology, Education, Ethics and Law’) contains academic contributions on subjects that are not only particularly relevant in terms of Islamic and theological thinking today but also in terms of classifying discourse that is related to Islam. The series’ broad thematic scope is intended to promote interdisciplinary exchange between the four subject areas mentioned in its title. Its academic approach connects innovative research perspectives and critical discussions with traditional knowledge of Islam, and it aims to provide both experts and any other readers interested in this subject area with access to the findings of current research. Furthermore, the series aims to provide a forum for discussion on current issues and debates from Islam and theology as well as for reflections on theology, education, ethics and law from other academic disciplines.

This publication series encompasses monographs and anthologies on the role of sea power in international relations, the evolution of naval forces and maritime strategy, and the importance of maritime security in global security. It is characterized by strong practical relevance. It addresses an international professional readership as well as the larger audience of those in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland who are interested in issues of maritime strategy and security. The series is strictly problem-oriented. Each publication marries academic quality to carefully articulated naval thought and is anchored in intellectual excellence. It is driven by the conviction that shared knowledge is empowerment.

This series collates studies which examine the media and media systems in an international context, which includes both comparative analyses and works which deal with the media in a specific region, and discuss subjects such as the freedom of the press and the role of the media in the process of democratisation. Moreover, the series welcomes a variety of types of publication, such as conference transcripts, dissertations and monographs, which are written in different languages.

The series Media and Religion offers a platform for innovative and creative contributions to this particular research field. It presents research projects from the fields of religion, theology, sociology, media, film and gender studies, political science, cultural studies and visual studies. Interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary studies are particularly welcome. The series aims to publish critical analyses of the multi-layered interactions between religion and media in history and contemporary society from an empirical, theoretical, and hermeneutical perspective.
