Series

The series focusses on the relation between law, ethics and society in the Middle East and in North Africa. It contains works that combine two or more research approaches or works that are situated at the intersection between two or more disciplines, like Middle Eastern Studies and History, Islamic Studies and Gender Studies, Law and Medicine. Books that are based on a differentiated set of sources, ranging from textual to oral sources, are welcome. The series will include excellent PhD dissertations and habilitations, but also monographs and edited collections. On the chronological perspective, books from the pre-modern up to the modern and contemporary era are published. The books will be published in German, English and Italian language.

The series Turkic and Oriental Studies is a forum for academic work on various aspects of the Turkic peoples and their neighbours. While its focus lies on linguistics and literature, studies on other fields are welcome as well. Both synchronic and diachronic studies qualify for publication. Criteria for acceptance are originality, significance, and academic excellence. The series includes monographs, collective volumes, conference proceedings, editions of primary sources as well as excellent dissertations and habilitation treatises. Publications will be mainly in German and English. Publications in Turkish of outstanding relevance are eligible as well.

”Sephardic Societies and Cultures“ is the only academic book series in Germany with an explicit Sephardic focus. It contributes to research on Iberian Jewish communities, its Western and Eastern Sephardic Diasporas, as well as Jewish and non-Jewish perspectives on and interactions with Sephardic Jews from the Middle Ages to the present. The series is aimed at researchers and students of Judaic Studies and Jewish Studies, Jewish, Christian and Islamic Theologies, Israel and Middle Eastern Studies, History, Philosophy, Literature and related subjects. Manuscripts should follow a cultural studies approach, contribute to research into the global history of Sephardic Judaism in all its diversity, reception and interconnectedness, and address current issues and discussions that are also of interdisciplinary interest. The series includes monographs, anthologies, editions as well as outstanding dissertations and post-doctoral theses.

Islamic Religious Education is a dynamic new discipline in German higher education, evolving alongside Islamic Theological Studies and the expansion of religious instruction in schools. This series bridges theory and practice by developing optimized learning processes for a pluralistic society. Closely linked to interreligious pedagogy, it intentionally embeds Islamic contexts into dialogical settings with other traditions to foster encounter, shared responsibility, and deeper interreligious reflection. We explore the full spectrum of Islamic Religious Education—from schools to community spaces. Our goal is to highlight concepts that enable collaborative learning among people of all religious and secular backgrounds, providing the theoretical and practical tools to meet today’s educational challenges. We provide a high-profile stage for cutting-edge research, including innovative dissertations and habilitation theses, monographs, edited volumes, and conference proceedings.
