Resocialisation, victim protection and atonement as well as aspects of a sustainable and victim-centred approach to criminal proceedings embedded in the concept of restorative justice need developing continuously and adapting to new findings from related fields. At the same time, it must be emphasised that any research findings resulting from this can only be partially integrated into practical investigative procedures, criminal proceedings, the implementation of criminal sentencing and committed discharge management. On the one hand, this series of publications is aimed at experts and managers from all German-speaking countries working in the fields of criminal, justice and social policy, professional associations, the media and civil society. On the other, its publications will also be relevant to researchers and lecturers from the fields of law and the social sciences, particularly criminal law, criminology, social work and social pedagogy. We welcome submissions of monographs from various disciplines, dissertations, habilitation theses, edited anthologies and conference proceedings for publication in the series.

Human societies are intertwined with their natural and anthropogenic surroundings in various ways. On the one hand, the deployment of the technical infrastructures of transport, supply and disposal, energy supply and communication play a key role in this respect. On the other hand, the relationship between humans and their environment is reflected in their use of the most different types of natural resources. These two aspects are often, if not always, closely interlinked: infrastructures are used to tap and exploit resources, while the use of resources is a prerequisite for building and operating infrastructures. This series focuses above all on the relationship between society and the environment in terms of both technology and materials. It publishes works that adopt an innovative methodological approach which reflects the hybridity of society, technology and nature in an integrative manner. This includes works in the traditions of science and technology studies, new materialism and a comprehensive history of technology and the environment, including environmental humanities. The series also welcomes submissions of interdisciplinary studies from the fields of the social sciences, engineering and environmental science.

What should we do? What should we not do? What is good conduct? What is the right thing to do? Thanks to our freedom and in our human dignity, such moral and ethical questions arise and challenge us. Ethics as a science that reflects on and examines morality strives to contribute to the clarification of these and similar questions and to offer ethical guidance. The series of publications entitled ‘Ethik – Ethics’ offers a forum for this ethical discourse. It focuses on the ethics of digital transformation and the ethics of so-called ‘artificial intelligence’ or data-based systems, on business, financial and corporate ethics as well as on the ethics of human rights. ‘Ethik – Ethics’ is characterised by the interplay of theologically ethical and philosophically ethical investigations, which can also go beyond these focal points. This series is characterised by excellent studies that identify new and innovative questions, develop approaches to address them and deal with fundamental ethical as well as specialised ethical topics.
