Methodologies for Urban Transport Studies

Regine Gerike and Joachim Scheiner focus on quantitative travel behaviour analysis as one core data basis for urban transport studies and evidence-based strategies for shaping future transport systems. Transport research investigates transport patterns in various research streams including research on travel behaviour, freight traffic and logistics, aggregated transport demand, simulation and modelling. This chapter presents first different types of data and methods for data collection. This is followed by an example travel survey analysis that can be seen as typical for recent related research. The final section discusses the findings and sets the study in context with metropolitan research.
