The following text explores the long and rich history of education in Syria, beginning with the origins of written culture and continuing to the present day. Despite numerous political and social upheavals – such as Ottoman rule, the French Mandate, and the Assad family’s regime – the importance of education has always been highly valued. The outbreak of the civil war in 2011 had devastating consequences for Syria’s education system. Schools were destroyed, millions of children lost access to education, and the infrastructure was severely damaged. Despite these challenges, there are numerous efforts to maintain and rebuild the education system. Inclusion, especially for people with disabilities, is considered a central aspect. Syrian refugees abroad also play an important role in continuing the country’s educational heritage. The future of education in Syria depends on various factors, including political will, international support, and the commitment of Syrian society. There is hope to create an inclusive and modern education system that offers all children a better future.
