In this work, Ana Raluca Alecu analyses how the influence and the political power of one Christian group in Romania, namely Coalition for the Family, a religious-backed alliance of NGOs who pushed for a referendum for changing the constitutional definition of the family into that of a union between man and woman, prepared the stage for the current political success of AUR (Alliance for the Union of Romanians), a party with an agenda mirroring the Coalition for the Family's anti-gender and religious views, albeit with a more pronounced far-right twist.
