Alke, Bonnes and Leben address the question of how digital platforms in adult education can be theoretically conceptualised and systematically classified at the system and organisational levels. Based on recent developments and initial findings in continuing education research, a heuristic is presented to analytically categorise the diverse platform phenomena. Finally, the potentials and challenges of digital platforms are discussed.
