Die heißen Eisen des Daniel Hürlimann (1985–2022)

29 September 2022 marked the passing of Daniel Hürlimann, an open access pioneer and Switzerland’s first professor of law and computer science (legal informatics). A researcher, attorney, journal editor, book publisher, NGO activist, and father of three – many were the irons that he forged simultaneously. Swiss colleagues counted him among the most energetic lawyers of his generation. He also nurtured fruitful connections to Germany. The present obituary by three of his German colleagues commemorates (by way of personal reminiscence) his cross-border impact on open access to law, one of Daniel Hürlimann’s dearest topics.
