The article raises the question of who or what makes digital technologies and, against the background of this question, interprets the concept of the maker as an auxiliary concept and figure of thought in literary research. It is outlined that a research perspective that is interested in practices of making suggests a pendulum movement from media use or media appropriation towards the production conditions of digital technologies and thus making.
