Is There a Christian Right in Belarus?

Regina Elsner analyses the relationship of religion and politics in Belarus, which is frequently named "the last dictatorship in Europe." The author shows the existent conservative actors within the major churches in Belarus - the Orthodox and the Catholic churches - and how they interact with the autocratic state. However close the political and the religious agenda may be in the the traditional questions of right wing mobilization, the dictatorship leaves no space for the development of an independent Christian right wing movement and according international networking.
