Lefoll, van der Merwe and Günther examine Swiss jewellers’ knowledge of goldsourcing, certification and responsible gold. While 79% said their jewellery wasethical or sustainable, only 13% knew the gold’s origin—limited to Fairtrade orFairmined sellers. Fewer than 10% of Responsible Jewellery Council-affiliatedjewellers stated their certification status. Almost all jewellers shared sourcingdetails only when asked, suggesting voluntary certifications may not necessarilyenhance transparency.
