Die Studie untersucht die Bedeutung von kooperierenden Tafeln für soziale NonprofitOrganisationen (NPOs) am Beispiel der Tafel Österreich. Dies wird im Kontext der Erfüllung der sozialen Funktionen von NPOs in der wohlfahrtsstaatlichen Landschaft betrachtet. Die konzeptionelle Basis bildet eine Wirkungsanalyse mit einem Teilwirkungsmodell. Dabei wird ein Mixed-Methods-Ansatz angewendet. Es zeigt sich, dass Lebensmittelspenden der Tafel Österreich für NPOs als Ressource von untergeordneter Bedeutung sind. Wesentlicher ist, dass NPOs durch die Bereitstellung von Lebensmitteln ihre sozialen Dienstleistungen ergänzen oder unterstützen können sowie einen Beitrag zur sozialen Integration leisten. Dies unterstützt indirekt die Bearbeitung von Problemen Armutsbetroffener.
