Dieser Artikel untersucht, welche Faktoren – neben politischer Inklusion – die ideologische Mäßigung von politischen Parteien oder Gruppierungen befördern oder behindern können. Anhand des Falls der Muslimbruderschaft (MB) unter Mubarak analysiert die Studie den Effekt von Regime-Diskurs und politischer Inklusion auf die ideologische Entwicklung von Islamisten. Ergebnis des Artikels ist: (i) ideologische Mäßigung setzt vor allem dann ein, wenn Inklusion mit einem negativen Diskurs des Regimes gegenüber der Muslimbruderschaft zusammenfällt; (ii) der moderierende Effekt des negativen Diskurses hält auch dann an, wenn Inklusion auf ein Minimum reduziert wird; (iii) der Inhalt dieses Diskurses prägt die spezifische Form der Mäßigung, d. h. in welchen Aspekten sich die Muslimbruderschaft mäßigt und in welchen nicht.
